Male Fertility Sperm Test
As living and work-related stress continues to rise, combined with unhealthy habits such as smoking, drinking, and staying up late, male sperm quality is showing a steady decline. SP10 protein, present on the acrosome of sperm, is a substance that enhances sperm motility and promotes sperm movement. It serves as a marker for the final stage of sperm production and has been proven suitable for analysis in sperm concentration testing. According to the fifth edition of the WHO "Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen," a sperm concentration ≤15×10⁶ per mL indicates difficulty in fertility.
Scientific research has shown that even in healthy men, sperm quality naturally fluctuates significantly, with only about half the year exhibiting optimal levels. Monitoring these fluctuations through hospital testing is often awkward and inconvenient, making home-based monitoring the most practical solution.
What is SP10 protein in sperm?
The acrosome is a unique structure specific to sperm cells, containing various proteases and phosphatases. SP10 acrosomal protein is a specific protein found in the sperm acrosome and serves as an essential neutral protease during fertilization. It cleaves the zona pellucida glycoproteins of the egg, enabling the sperm to penetrate the cumulus oophorus and then traverse the zona pellucida to fuse with the oocyte. The absence or abnormal expression of this protein may impair the sperm's ability to bind with the egg.
Common applications for detecting SP10 protein:
🔹 Assisted diagnosis of male infertility: helps identify infertility caused by acrosomal dysfunction;
🔹 Sperm quality assessment: when combined with routine semen analysis, provides more comprehensive fertility data;
